The 8 member Empower Lacrosse Club team had a very successful first tournament decisively winning both games and showing some strong skills and lots of smiles.
The team arrived with no subs and immediately took to the hall ways of the center for dynamic stretching. Feeling a little sore from the previous days practice session, they moved to the field for some partner passing and ground ball shuttles while coach warmed up the goalie.
Game #1 was against Shelburne Red where they were quickly a goal down. Not discouraged, Empower Lacrosse responded shortly after the whistle with a blistering goal off the draw and then netted several more while keeping the ball in scoring position for most of the game. Final score was 7-2.
During the 30 minute break between games, there was a quick feeding frenzy, strategy session and then back at it against Shelburne White for Game #2. The Empower Team really started to gel and work as a unit with very strong passing and field tactics for a regional team with only one 60 minute practice. They notched several goals before Shelburne was able to get on the board with a final score of 5-2.
All the girls should be proud of themselves; they practiced hard, played hard and really made a statement for a small team from somewhere south of Burlington.
I think the spontaneous dance party that happened in the parking lot while loading the cars said it all. They play hard, and dance hard, thanks to the Spinners and Rubber Band Man! Fun was had by all!
